A quality of life survey conducted in 231 major cities worldwide by international consultants Mercer saw Vienna claim first place for the tenth time in a row in 2019. Analysis of 140 cities worldwide conducted by the Economist Intelligence Unit came to the same conclusion, with Vienna awarded first place in 2019 for the second year in succession. The Smart City Index, compiled by respected consultancy Roland Berger based on the performance of 87 cities, ranked the Austrian capital first in 2019, as in 2018. And Monocle magazine’s Most Liveable Cities Index awarded Vienna fifth place behind Zurich, Tokyo, Munich and Copenhagen.

600,000 readers of the US and UK editions of Condé Nast Traveler named Vienna as their first-choice travel destination in Europe for its culture, culinary offering and magnificent architecture. The Austrian capital finished fourth internationally and was named one of the must-see destinations worldwide for 2020 in the Spanish edition of the travel magazine.
